Our linen hire team shares our favourite summer wedding trends

The weather is heating up, and so too is wedding season.

22% of weddings in Australia take place during our summer months, making it a popular time for celebrations!

The thing about wedding trends is that they evolve, grow, and build upon each other, year after year.

One such trend that has been consistently growing is how personalised weddings are becoming.

No longer are they a stock-standard package thrown together by an event venue and rehashed dozens of times. Now, couples are taking a pragmatic approach to introduce personalised touches to make their wedding truly their own – from their vows down to the table linen hire.

As we head into summer, we thought it was the perfect opportunity to take a look at some of the hottest summer wedding trends dominating the conversation between event planners and the husband and wife to-be.

Wildflowers

While spring has provided beautiful blooms, and certain flowers may flourish during winter, summer brings its own unique foliage: wildflowers are becoming increasingly popular compared to ‘traditional’ florals.

Because they’re seasonally appropriate, wildflowers can also be more cost-effective.

Authenticity

As touched on above, we’ve noticed how couples are placing a higher emphasis on authenticity, truly reflecting who they are as a people, and of course, as a couple.

One great example is couples who strive to have an eco-friendly wedding (more on that in the next point!) but other authentic choices can include:

Writing your own vows

To ensure true authenticity, write your own vows – make them personal, and real. Write the way you speak; if it feels right, include a joke!

Whether you’re a sentimental kind of person who wears your heart on your sleeve, or someone who prefers a more straight-edge approach, your vows reflect your personality, and your unique way to show love for your new partner.

Choosing your music

Most DJs and bands have a tried-and-tested wedding playlist, but make it a point to let them know song you absolutely want to hear, and those they must strike off their list.

Also a good tip? Ask guests to include a song request on their RSVP card!

Doing what you want, not what’s expected

Don’t like white? Then don’t wear it! There’s a lot of pressure to bow down to the traditions of a wedding – but none that you have to conform to.

Your guests are there to celebrate the unity and love between two people – not to assess your wedding day choices.

Eco-friendly choices

Everyday people are making a conscious effort to make more thoughtful and eco-friendly decisions in their day-to-day lives.

And today, even brides are thinking about the choices they may leading up to their wedding.

Curious to know how you can make more eco-friendly choices? Consider the following:

  • Choose farmers and local businesses; enjoy a sustainable or farm-to-table menu on your wedding day
  • Use recycled or eco-friendly paper to print save-the-dates, invitations, menus, and placecards
  • Reconsider the use of items that will end up in landfill, including balloons and plastic confetti
  • Alternatively, consider leaves or rose petal for confetti
  • Avoid exotic, out-of-season florals; instead choose seasonal blooms
  • Shop local – search for unique decor from local small businesses
  • Think about whether you really need to offer wedding favours – will people genuinely use them or will they just be thrown out? (Think of your wallet, too!)

Velvet

An emerging trend that seems to be growing bigger month on month, velvet instantly evokes bold luxury to your table settings.

Add a touch of luxe with Table Art’s velvet napkins for hire, available in Emerald, Royal Blue, Mulberry, and Marshmellow Pink.

You might consider velvet a decadent, moody fabric better accustomed to winter, however a touch of velvet through smaller elements like your napkins is the perfect accent to your summer wedding.

Sophisticated brights

Warmer days and longer (and lighter!) nights call for bright colours to celebrate!

Avoid looking too ‘carnival’ by sticking to 2-3 hues, to keep your look bright and fresh, yet unified.

Some of our favourite summer colour combinations include:

Citrus

Pale yellows or peach teamed with cream – so fresh and summery!

Yellows, tangerines, and a splash of apple green is perfect for a zesty summertime soiree.

Get the table linens to match: Citrus Stripe and Apple Weave are two of our favourites for the summer months.

Lilac, blush and white

A more modern twist on classic blush and white: add a touch of lilac through florals or stationary to elevate the look while keeping it all tied together.

Rosewater Chiffon and Dusty Pink Stripe look great teamed with fresh whites including bone, vanilla, and eggshell table linen

Foliage

Deep green leaves lend themselves perfectly to virtually any colour palette.

Add a touch of greenery and nature with foliage on your tables, as part of your wedding arch, and of course, in your bouquet.

Why choose a summer wedding?

Of course, it goes without saying that people choose to get married in the summer months do so because of their chances of enjoying great weather come their wedding day!

Best of all, the nights feel longer, allowing you to celebrate well into the early hours of the next morning!

Longer, lighter evenings, summer nights give you more flexibility in your timeline, too. A later ceremony means guests can head straight for the reception, without lulling about awkwardly in between.

(Of course, this is Melbourne, so there’s no guarantee you won’t get rain on your wedding day!)
