Deck the halls! Christmas table styling tips from our linen hire team

There’s not much we love more than sitting down to a beautifully styled table… and even more so when it’s during the festive season!

As one of the most magical (and busiest!) times of the year, we knew we had to write a blog post sharing some of our favourite table styling tips for Christmas.

Whether you’re hosting the Christmas Day lunch, planning an impressive corporate celebration, or simply want to inject a bit of Christmas style into the family table, read on how you can get your table ready for the festive season.

Create the perfect Christmas table this year with some hints from our table linen hire styling experts!

Red and green, of course

You’ve decked the halls and the tree is up.

Now it’s time to style that table and get it ready for Christmas lunch.

Love the look of traditional red and green? Us too. The best part about it is that it can be interpreted in so many ways, in order for you to achieve a look that perfectly matches your home and your style.

For example, for a modern Australian twist, you can use springs of rosemary tied into a mini wreath, with a place card identifying each guest.

Hot tip! If you’re using any kind of foliage or greenery, store it in the fridge before use.

Classic red & green Christmas table styling

Planning an outdoor Christmas lunch?

While our neighbours in the northern hemisphere are dreaming of a white Christmas, we’re slapping on the sunscreen and getting ready to celebrate in the heat!

Take advantage of the sunshine and enjoy Christmas lunch outside this year.

Our gorgeous Apple Stripe linen hire works perfectly as the base for a fresh and summery table setting.

Simply add some white flowers and green foliage, and you’re done!

You can also add a touch of glam with gold or silver cutlery, but we suggest keeping it relatively pared down. Let the Apple Stripe linen do most of the talking!

Don’t be afraid to play with colour!

While traditional, there’s no rule that says you have to stick to classic green and red for Christmas day.

The key is picking a colour scheme – no matter what shades you prefer – to ensure that the whole look is polished, and that each element is tied together.

Not sure where to start? One of the best tips we can share is to look at your home and see the colour palette that’s already woven through it.

Work with that, and simply add a little Christmas magic!

These days, decor is available in a wide range of colours and shades, and new decorating trends are emerging every year. It’s never been easier to inject some festive charm into your home’s existing decor.

Lenzo recently celebrated their year in style with forest green teamed with dusty pink (and our Marshmellow Velvet napkins), while keeping it bright with white and gold.

A beautiful and modern twist on traditional red and green!

Modern Christmas table styling

Hosting a more formal dinner?

Prefer sitting down to a beautiful table setting for a formal dinner on Christmas night?

Then think royal blue and navy.

These decadent shades create a truly luxurious setting, as seen below. Add some tall tapered candles, some beautiful florals, and layered crockery for a gorgeous formal table setting.

Linen hire - formal Christmas dinner

Cover up the emergency trestle table with table linen…

…and your guests will be none the wiser!

Come Christmas Day, many of us welcome more people to our homes than during any other day.

Your normal dining table can’t fit every Tom, Dick, and Harry, so you’ve had to resort to bringing in the extra trestle table from the garage.

The kiddie table can look just as impressive – ensure you hire linen for both table, and maintain the styling and accessories across both tables.

Don’t overcrowd your table

We suggest doing a bit of a ‘test run’ in advance.

No need to set up the whole table, but you might like to lay your table linen and set up a few place settings containing crockery, glassware, and cutlery.

Then, add your styling accessories, whether that be place cards, vases, candles, or other Christmas decor like bonbons.

This way you’ll be able to immediately see if the table is too crowded, and will save you stress (and frantic rearranging!) come Christmas Day.

And while we’re on it, we suggest laying out your table on Christmas Eve, rather than the next morning.

Not only will you be prepared and be able to relax more come Christmas morning, but you’ll also avoid the panic of realising you’re a chair short!

It’s not too late to hire table linen this Christmas!

The big man in red hasn’t left the North Pole just yet, so there’s still time to hire table linen and create a stunning setting for your Christmas lunch or dinner!
