How do you choose wedding linens? 6 tips to pick your colours

If you know, you know: planning a wedding is one of the most exciting yet stressful endeavours you’ll embark on in your lifetime.

From venue scouting to the dress, and every little detail in between, there’s so much to consider.

But for a wedding planner, or linen styling experts like us, it’s all part of the day-to-day!

Working with event planners and stylists all over Australia, our unique experience enables us to help plan facets of your wedding you might not have put much thought into, or were overwhelmed with.

One such factor? Your wedding linen colours.

What colour linen should you choose for your wedding?

This is one of those questions where there is literally no ‘right’ answer.

However if you’re struggling with the prospect of choosing your wedding colours, aren’t sure how to blend colour into your preferred theme, or are simply overwhelmed with all the options available, we hope the following factors might help you think (and see) a little more clearly…

Don’t want to do it on your own? We’re here to help!

Tell us a little about yourself, your partner, and any other wedding details (like venue and time of year), plus your theme (if you’ve got one already).

We’ll be your creative arm, helping you to realise your vision and discover what you love (and importantly, what you don’t like so much). Get in touch with our wedding linen styling experts today.

1. Think carefully about your theme

One of the first and most important factors you should take into consideration is your theme.

Even if you haven’t yet locked in your theme, you might have a general idea of what kind of look you want to achieve.

Whether you’re learning towards rustic, boho, glamorous, or traditional, your theme is an excellent starting point as you begin to explore colours, textures, fabrics, and styling options.

2. Explore complimentary colours

There are heaps of online tools, like Adobe’s Color Wheel that will introduce you to a multitude of colour combinations.

All you need is one core colour, and these clever tools can create colour wheels of complementary shades, monochromatic colours, and shades that offer great contrast.

There are even some Instagram filters that generate a colour palette when you hover your camera. Search ‘colour palette’ to start exploring. (Warning: it’s addictive!)

3. Look for colours all around you

If you’ve already secured a venue, you’ve no doubt conducted a few site visits. Next time you head to your wedding venue, take a really close look around.

Look for colours and shades that are a natural part of the space to get inspired and begin building your colour palette.

4. Inject colour more subtly

So you’re into a more subtle look – and that’s OK!

If you’d prefer a more neutral base, you can still inject pops of colour in a more discrete way, simply by paring down the colourful decor.

What we mean here is that instead of a coloured table cloth, you might consider sticking to something plainer or more neutral (like a wedding table runner), and instead add coloured napkins on each place setting.

Teamed with neutrals such as white or bone tableware or even a bare table (like exposed wood), you’re still adding a little bit of colour, albeit in a more subliminal way.

5. Let in-season florals influence you

Choosing seasonal flowers doesn’t just make sense, but it’s also a great way to save some money on what can quickly become a costly part of your wedding.

Additionally, foliage is the perfect way to add subtle and natural shades.

Out of season florals can not only bump up the cost, but your carbon footprint, too, due to the measures needed to water and heat or cool the temperature to mimic their natural environment.

6. Most importantly, think about what you and your future spouse like!

At the end of the day, all that matters is that you and your partner are happy and that you can look back on your wedding day with complete joy.

While others around you can offer their strategic assistance and professional guidance, remember that it’s always your call, and it’s our job to bring your dream wedding to life.

Is it cheaper to rent or buy table linens?

Ahh, the old rent vs. buy debate.

We get asked this question a lot, but secretly we love it… because we think we’ve got the perfect answer!

In short, renting table linen is the ideal solution to ensure you get high-quality linens to create a beautiful setting for your event, without all of the other hassle associated with buying.

And best of all – it costs way less!

So, not only is it more cost-effective to rent your wedding tablecloths, it simply makes so much more sense, too.

When it comes to wedding table linen hire, you don’t have to worry about things like:

  • Finding your preferred colours in the right tablecloth sizes
  • Steaming and preparing linen for your tables
  • Getting it laundered afterwards
  • Storing it for the long-term

(And while we’re at it: yes – they WILL take up a lot more room than you think!)

Our extensive range, filled with beautiful colours, all the right sizes (no awkwardly short drops here!), and a variety of fabrics, means you can essentially pick and choose from within your very own linen hire catalogue!

And if you need a little help, we’re always here to assist.

We love bringing out clients’ vision to life, whether you’re planning a whimsical wedding, a large corporate event, or simply celebrating a milestone at home with your nearest and dearest.
