It may have been a while since we stepped through the doors of a corporate event or partied on the dancefloor at a wedding, but we’re hopeful 2021 will see the end of that, and instead the reinvigoration of our beloved corporate event and wedding scene!
As such, we’re already looking towards the future (and trying hard to forget 2020) – this month, we’re sharing some top trends you’ll be seeing at weddings, corporate events, and other celebrations this summer.
What better way to get planning than with these summer event styling tips, courtesy of your linen hire experts.

Embrace nature
Summer’s nearly here – the days are longer (and lighter), hay fever is out of control, and we’re spending more time outdoors basking in the glorious sunshine!
Whether you’ve opted for an outdoor wedding ceremony and are planning photos in a beautiful park, or are hosting a corporate event on a cool inner-city rooftop, it’s likely the outdoors will play some role come event day.
Foliage
Greenery and foliage has been a growing trend for the last few years, and we can’t see it disappearing anytime soon!
It provides a beautiful backdrop and is the perfect start for a rustic, natural, and intimate affair.
However it can also be incorporated into a more glamorous black-tie theme, adding a minimal touch of colour (and texture) even to a decadent setting filled with gold, silver, and black.
Larger pieces of foliage can also be used to segment a space, for example if the one venue is hosting your ceremony on one side of the room and then the reception on the other.
Best of all, pops of green lend themselves perfectly to a summer event filled with bright whites or a neutral palette.
Natural tones
Natural tones can be paired with flashes of gold or silver to add some glam but still keep it looking polished and sleek.
Think shades like oatmeal, ivory, and eggshell – they’re light and bright, keeping to your summer soiree theme.
These neutral tones can also work well with a range of contrasting colour palettes, whether you’ve chosen earth tones like terracotta (more on this popular shade below) or a bolder colour palette.
Texture
There’s just something about texture that conveys a sense of warmth, friendliness, and overall positivity. It’s summer, after all – the sun is shining, the temperature’s rising, and we’re all feeling energised!
Textural elements – from your table linen and napkins to furniture and decor – adds dimension and creates a comfortable space.
What colours are trending this summer?
Terracotta
Tying in with the natural theme above, this colour is quickly popping up in more and more events.
It’s a refreshing colour palette that pairs well with green, white, natural shades, and florals, and is quite unique – but quickly growing in popularity.
White
Always popular, white is teamed with soft colours like peach and blush to create a romantic and sweet atmosphere.
Earthy tones
From the grey-green colour that is slate to deep forest green, midnight blue, and shades of brown, earthy tones are finding their place beyond the typical rustic wedding theme.
Paired back with contrasting tones, earthy shades don’t need to dull or darken a room – instead, they add warmth and personality.
Wedding trends
As we start to welcome back weddings in some parts of the country, brides- and grooms-to-be are still continuing with their plans alongside their wedding coordinators.
Smaller and more intimate gatherings
A growing trend for several years now, some couples prefer to celebrate with their nearest and dearest in a smaller celebration.
Additionally, after the year we’ve just experienced, many brides and grooms may want to reduce their budget and have a more meaningful and sentimental, albeit smaller, wedding celebration.
2021 will be the year of gratitude, where weddings (and in fact any other kind of event) will have a deeper and more sentimental meaning – particularly for those who are finally getting to celebrate after a prior postponement.
Expertly styled tablescapes
Turn up the charm with a table setting that matches the tone of your event and the energy of summer!
As table linen experts, we know how to set up a table that not only looks visually stunning, but that meets practicality needs too.
There’s a lot to consider when it comes to creating the perfect table setting and arranging centrepieces… so while you might wish to adorn your table with florals, we’ll plan for practicality, too:
- Planning the height of florals so that guests can see each other from across the table
- Adequate spacing and positioning so that leaves aren’t falling into your guests’ glasses
- Room for share platters as well as all your required crockery, cutlery, and glassware
Sustainability
We’ve already blogged about eco-friendly wedding choices before, but particularly after this year, couples are making thoughtful decisions to include local suppliers and businesses as part of their wedding.
Lots of glam and full-blown parties
After months of top knots and elastic waistbands, people are ready to get seriously glammed-up, whether that be old Hollywood curls, an extravagant wedding dress, or statement jewellery and hair accessories.
And let’s be honest: we’re all simply hanging out for any old excuse to party like there’s no tomorrow!
